Cricket Basics Hair Salon Apparel Packaging

When Cricket wanted to redesign their Basics line of apparel packaging, I created a simple design with a clear system for quickly and easily differentiating between several style options, all while working within the constraints of a custom display.

Using bold colors to catch attention and a large font size that’s easy to read, customers can distinguish between the different types of capes in a glance. The front of the box shows the model closer up to draw in the customer’s eye, while the back of the box has a full body shot to provide more visual information about the cape. I modified the shape of the cutout from a rectangle with hard edges to a softer, curved shape with rounded corners to make the box more unique. The colored shape with the word “BASICS” matches the curve and shape of the cutout bringing the design together.

Color coding and a large font size help distinguish between the different types of capes, while the bright pops of color help draw attention.

The custom display
only allowed the top third of the packaging to show. Because of that, I laid out all the critical information in the appropriate space so it wasn’t hidden from the customer’s eye.

In addition to the packaging design, I also photographed the model, did all of the post-processing, and created layer masks in Photoshop.
