My wife joined the Petaluma Mothers’ Club when we had our first son two years ago. Through the organization we have made many friends and have had the opportunity to take part in all the wonderful activities the organization offers. My wife wanted to give back and became the current co-editor of the Mothers’ Club Newsletter, Nurturers’ News. I have helped out myself by volunteering to design the newsletter on several occasions.
This job was a challenge considering the organization was previously using Publisher to layout the newsletter, had recently switched to InDesign and the basic structure and design was not very organized. I devised a three and four column grid system to more easily layout the publication and provide better readability, standardized the font hierarchy and used free stock photography to bring visual interest to articles.
